I was informed by both Google and The Writer's Almanac that today is the birthday of Beatrix Potter. She, along with the recently departed Tasha Tudor, are my favorite children's authors. I made this little guy as a tribute to Beatrix Potter's best-known character for a weaver's guild exhibition. As is my usual habit, I finished him the night before he needed to be dropped off. Oddly, the judge stated in the evaluation that the brass buttons didn't "work" for her. (Read the story, my friend - the buttons are an essential element to the story) Anyhoo, after all these years, I still think he's cute.
One of the reasons I love Beatrix Potter is the fact that she donated so much land in the Lake District to the people of England. One of the items on my ever-expanding Life List is to take one of those tours where you walk across England.
Other things on my mind...
I was happy with the person the judges chose for the Next Food Channel star. He seemed really talented and I couldn't stomach the other two competetors.
I was truly disappointed with the season premier of Mad Men. Dull as dishwater. I don't want Don to become an introspective lobotomy patient, I want last season's gigilo back! What happened to Peggy's baby? Will we ever know? One highlight of the show, however, was the massive Aran knit sweater worn by a guy interviewing for a job at the advertising firm. That sweater had to weigh 14 pounds. I wasn't even listening to the dialogue at that point I was so busy staring at the sweater.
Finally, some time last week a guy from our insurance compaany came to look around our property. My husband received a report today which referred to our "aggressive" dog. Little 24-pound Frida!?!!?!?? She is the most timid little creature you can imagine! What kind of pansyman did they send over that could be intimidated by the gentlest pooch in the world? Go figure.
