I've had very good luck at thrift stores lately in the sweater department. None of the yummy pastels I've seen others find, but a good number of fair isle type patterns. Anyhoo... I packed up my fulled sweaters and spent the afternoon with my mother, aunt and cousin making some beautiful lined mittens. I use Betz White's pattern. My spin on this great-fitting mitt is to line them with something special. We used every inch of a red cashmere sweater to line four pairs of mittens. I used tiny sweater scraps to squeeze out one last pair of baby mitts after I got home. I do love knitting elaborately patterned and shaped mittens, but there's a lot of satisfaction in putting together a pair in twenty or so minutes.
Yesterday I spent the morning at a slipper knitting workshop learning this pattern . I hope to finish the pair this week. The unfelted slipper is e-n-o-r-m-o-u-s. It will be fun to see how it shrinks down.
