Pom Pom Pumpkins Made with Wool Fleece Tutorial

Laurie's pom pom pumpkin at Liquid Paper inspired this project.

Materials:  Orange wool roving, Green yarn, Fabri-tac glue

Equipment: Susan Bates Pom Pom Maker, sharp scissors, tapestry needle

Method:  I used the next-to-largest pom pom form.  The directions which come with the set of forms is good - I just used fleece instead of yarn.  Wrap the two halves of the mold with the orange wool. Clip the two sections together and using the scissors, snip the fleece as shown.

Take abou 18 inches of green yarn.  Double it and use it to securely tie the center of the pom pom.  Take care to really cinch it tightly.  Remove the plastic forms and fluff up the pom pom.  Trim the bottom so it will be a flat spot for the pumpkin to sit.

The green yarn used to tie the middle will be the core of the stem.  Put a couple of drops of Fabri-tac on the yarn which you have trimmed down to about three inches. Take another 18 inches of yarn.  Double this and wrap the core.  Fold the stem in half and wrap it again.  Thread the ends of the wrapping yarn into the needle.  Run the needle into the stem, ending in the middle of the pom pom to conceal the ends.  You are done!  (Thanks, Laurie, for the inspiration!)
