Half-Year Resolutions?

998363-047 Today is July !st.  That means the year is half over.  So far, so good.  But, combined with the fact that my summer break is just starting, it's probably a good time to make a few resolutions.  I have a friend who seems to get everything done.  She doesn't talk about it, but I've seen her system when I've visited her home.  She takes 3"x 5" cards and writes tasks on them.  Some are daily tasks like washing dishes. I think she has a number of these which she re-uses over and over.  Some are specific one-time tasks.  Anyhoo, the system really works for her because, as I said, she gets it all done.

So, to follow her good example I wrote today's to-do list on a scrap of paper ( I know myself, I'd keep shuffling the index cards until I could pick a card which read "go to the movies" or some less-than-productive activity like that).  My first job was to clean my very cluttered bedroom.  Five minutes in, I found a Dayrunner organizer I bought 90% off a month or two ago.  I think I might give that a whirl. Here's to organization!

Note:  I used this image because the girl was writing AND because Niagara Falls was, for many, many years the home of Shredded Wheat.  It was manufactured just a couple miles down the road.  Like countless other industries, it has left the area.

Happy Birthday Canada !

204 Today is Canada Day, formerly known as Dominion Day.  I can actually see Canada from my back yard.  I plan to drive down to the falls tonight to view the fireworks tonight.

Such a Color

June 2008 024 I found these whisper-colored shards on the ground as I took little Frida for her walk.  This is as beautiful as a color gets.  Little Frida, by the way, is acting as though she wants longer walks.  I think I will start walking aroung the falls a couple of times a week.

Email Bankruptcy

995437-083 I was listening to a report on NPR this morning about managing one's email.  One of the people who was interview used a term I had not heard before.  He had the predicament, despite having pretty good spam filters, of having an inbox with thousands of unread messages.  (I get antsy when I have between 40 and 50 unread messages.)  So... he declared what he termed "email bankruptcy"  He deleted all of them.  He said he figured some of his message-senders might be steamed, but it was worth it.  So... I followed his lead and rubbed out all of mine just now.

Don't Be Jealous

Product266_thumbnail I know this might make folks green with envy... tomorrow I get to spend the day at an amusement park with an entire elementary school.  And the weatherman predicts rain.  Fun?  Wow!

Y'Know That River in Egypt?

Pug-dog-dressed-up For the past couple of nights I sat on the couch and denied what was obvious to the other people who live in this humble abode.  Little Frida is, as they say, intact.  In a month or two, when she is declared cured of heartworm, she will be spayed. Until then, she will be tempted to "mark" her environment.  Evidently she performed that little task on the rug, leaving just a whiff of that unmistakable ammonia scent. Tonight I rolled up the carpet and tossed it to the front stoop to await the rug man's magic. And so... we all breathe easier.

Why Do Hummingbirds Hum?

May2008_049 Because they don't know the words!  I bought myself my first hummingbird feeder today.  Around here, I'm told, it needs to be installed on Mother's Day.  That puts me a week behind, but I'm hoping for the best.  I plan to plant some hollyhocks near the feeder. I read that my chances of luring the itty bitty birdies would be enhanced if I did that.  Here's hoping.

Let's Assume He Had Fun

May2008_021 Mother:  Where did you go yesterday?

Son: Oh, a group got together to go off-roading.
