I've been a fan of Upstairs Downstairs for years. For the uninitiated, that is a British television series from the 1970's. It is set in Edwardian Era London. I have the entire series, five seasons in all, on VHS tapes (my son calls them "the Smithsonian tapes). I was thrilled to find "The Duchess of Duke Street" on Netflix. Even better, the first of the two seasons is a "watch it now" format. It is set in the time of Upstairs Downstairs but it features as the central character a woman who rises from scullery maid to hotel owner. If you have even a passing interest in food, the subplots involving the inner workings of the kitchens will be enthralling to you.
